Espionage for dummies

In the Tauri World game, each player has a wide array of espionage tools which can be used to secretly obtain information about other players. Those tools are: Spies, Recon Ships and Spying Balloons.
- A Spy unit can gather many types of valuable info about enemy’s island or to interrupt its work, depending on the type of spying mission.
- A Recon Ship can gather detailed information about all fleets, ships and even other types of units present at the target place.
- A Spying Baloon can gather detailed information about all fleets going to or from a certain location (which is in range of baloons).

Antispying

Counterintelligence - Units are an effective countermeasure against all espionage activity. Each such unit decreases the chance of success of any spying attempt (be it a spy, spying baloon or a recon ship) by 10% (the value chance is lowered step-by-step by each unit by 10%, that’s why 10 units result in a psying chance of 35%, not 0%). The maximum amount of counterintelligence units, 30, reduces the chance to 4%. unfortunately, a counterintelligence unit has a limited duration. After its expiration a player must train a new unit to take its place.

The maximum number of counter-intelligence units available at a single island equals the current level of the Espionage building.

Possible mission results

Each espionage mission, which has not been cancelled by the Counterintelligence units, can has up to 3 different results, depending on the difference of Spying and Counter-Intelligence Technology levels between a spy and its victim. There is also a slight random element that affects the outcome.

A: the technology level of an spying player +1 for the bonus multispy
B: the technology level of an target player +the random number from the range (-10 to +10) (note that the more extreme random number the more rarely it happens)

A and B relation: A > B+3 A = B+2 or B+3 A = B or B+1
Mission result:Result no. 1Result no. 2Result no. 3

The exact results are similar for each type of espionage units.

Additionally, a unit which performs a spying action may be destroyed. SPying balloons are always destroyed after delivering a report. Spies and Recon ships are destroyed if the mission is a failure and the target has spying technology level equal or higher than the spying player’s technology level.

Spying on an island

Spy

Spy’s abilities depend on the current level of espionage technology.

The spy can carry out a wide range of intelligence tasks. Here is a complete list:

  • Acquiring information about the buildings owned by the scanned player in a given location.

This requires spy technology at level 3.

  • Obtaining information on the size and quality of defense systems.

This requires spy technology at level 5.

  • Obtaining information about the number and quality of ships stationing at a given location.

This requires spy technology at level 6.

  • Acquiring information about the presence of heroes at a given location.

This requires spy technology at level 8.

  • Turning a protective field off (temporary deactivation of the structure of the scanned player).

This requires spy technology at level 16.

  • Stealing 5% of raw materials located on the location.

This requires spy technology at level 16.
Please note that materials are delivered only in the best possible mission result

  • Neutralizing a hero

This requires spy technology at level 14.

  • Acquiring information about the buildings owned by the scanned player in a given location.

This requires spy technology at level 14.

  • Sabotaging an interplanetary ship - a task which temporarily delays the start of an interplanetary ship.

This requires spy technology at level 24.

  • Acquiring information about orders of the scanned fleets and their composition (its size and details, summary of units). The task also enables to obtain information about where the fleet being scanned is headed.

This requires spy technology at level 18.

  • Blocking the construction of all structures for a specified period. The task enables to sabotage the construction of buildings in a given location.

This requires spy technology at level 20.

All possible outcomes of a Spy’s mission:

Result no. 1: the mission is successful (many details are acquired).
Result no. 2: the mission is successful.
Result no. 3: the mission is marginally successful (only some details are acquired)

Spying on stationing fleets

Recon Ship

A Recon Ship has the ability to scan an enemy island to get information of fleets and even particular units present there. To use this ability, send a Recon Ship on a spying mission (only one type of mission is available).

All possible outcomes of a Recon Ship’s mission:

Result no. 1: the mission is successful (many details are acquired).
Result no. 2: the mission is successful.
Result no. 3: the mission is marginally successful (only some details are acquired)

Spying on moving fleets

Spying Balloon

A Spying Balloon is an intelligence tool with a specific range of action, which is dependent on the level of the ’Balloon Construction’ building. Each balloon is a single-use tool (it is destroyed after its mission).

Each Spying Baloon tries to detect all fleets moving to or from location selected as its target. For each fleet a different result is generated (with a different random number). Mind that for the purpose of the Spying Balloon’s mission outcome, the technology level of the target island is used the B value, described above, not the technology level of the fleet’s owner.

All possible outcomes of a Spying Baloon mission:

Result no. 1: the mission is successful (many details are acquired).
Result no. 2: the mission is successful.
Result no. 3: the mission is marginally successful (only some details are acquired)
